| | Security systems provide a deterrent to hopefully
stop people trying to break in to your premises, and protection and
warning against those who actually try. Security also provides
protection not only against intrusion from outside, but from staff
within your organisation. Security comes in many forms, as detailed
below. All systems can and should be linked back to a central
monitoring centre, located either onsite or at an offsite monitoring
service provider. Security Access
Systems – Most companies nowadays have
some sort of security access system for their offices, whether these
are suitable to protect their Technology Rooms is the first question
to answer. A good security access system has centralised management
facilities (which need to be protected themselves); can accommodate
a wide range of entry mechanisms (right up to biometrics) and can
also do full audting of personnel entry and departure. CCTV Systems – From simple internal systems with
dome cameras for your Technology Rooms (as much for health and
security, as for intruder detection) to outside systems monitoring
all of the key areas in their vision. Determination of camera siting
is a specialised skill and should be decided along with a specialist.
Intruder Systems – These again should be located at all of the key
weakness areas (outside doors, windows, etc) and must be linked to
some monitoring centre, otherwise all you are going to get is
complaints about the alarm going off. | |
