Virtual Presence Interface (VPI)- This is a single user interface via a standard web browser for accessing
any of the appliances of the Remote Management Infrastructure (RMI).
The VPI is secure and allows for authentication through Active
Directory, LDAP, etc. and a permissions scheme that ensures that
each user is restiricted to authorised devices/ functions. Enterprise KVM Switches - These connect to the
servers by a variety of interface cables matching the server. These
carry the analogue signals through cat5e cables and can be patched
through structured cabling systems. The unit cannects to the LAN, to
allow connection over IP to the servers, allowing full bios control
and use of local media to be mounted on the remote servers.
Serial over IP Appliances - These connect to any serial console
devices (routers, switches, Unix servers, etc.). The unit cannects
to the LAN, which allows connection over IP to the devices.
Manageable Power Supplies- This is achieved through manageable
power strips or server-imbedded IPMI. The strips can be connected to
a variety of power sources (e.g. 13, 16 or 30 amp) via the necessary
power connectors. They come in vertical or horizontal
configurations and individual sockets can be power cycled or
disabled to prevent unauthorised use. | | |
