| | Standby Generator Sets are an intrinsic part of
any resilient and redundant electrical supply system for IT
equipment. They provide a long term source of power in the event of
a power cut.
Data
Centre/Computer Room Units
It
is wise to have a generator dedicated to a Data Centre, so that from
an 'installation planning' viewpoint, the capacity can be reviewed
regularly to ensure it can provide the load. If a generator supplies
an entire building it is much harder to determine the exact capacity
required, as it can change regularly (e.g. seasonal use of office
A/C, lifts, electric heating, etc) and therefore some form of
load-shedding will be required. The most common types are diesel and
they come in a variety of sizes dependent on need and can come with
different sizes of fuel tanks. They also often require acousitc
enclosures to bring noise levels in line with european regulations
(2000/14/EC)
